Yoga In The Air: Aerial Yoga Workshop

Come fly, Yogis!

Aerial Yoga is a combination of traditional yoga postures with skilful manoeuvres using the support of fabric in space. Come learn to move in the air with confidence and grace as you gain strength in a supportive environment. Join Winnie Au at Little Mandarin Yoga for a 2-hour aerial yoga workshop.

Expect to sweat and laugh a lot with like-minded yogis on the hammock. From aerial basics to challenging poses, develop the internal strength required to work with instability whilst learning when to surrender to gravity and just relax. Discover the movements authentic to your own body and embark on a journey to freedom.

In this workshop:

  • Enjoy the benefits of supported inversions on the hammock - relieving compression in the spine and joints;

  • Learn to safely move in and out of both simple supported inversions and more complex postures;

  • Build upper body and core strength, flexibility and coordination as we manoeuvre through the hammock;

  • Deepen the awareness and connection to the body by aligning intelligently to the natural design of the human body;

  • Have fun balancing between controlled and relaxed movements; and

  • Get to know yourself on a deeper level, whilst observing, exploring and embracing your inner child (and fear) through the practice.

All levels are welcome! Whether you are looking to give aerial yoga a try, or are wanting to deepen your regular practice, all you need is to come with a fresh mind, be ready to explore and have fun!

Investment: $50 (limited 13 spots)

Little Mandarin Yoga Studio Winnie.jpg

About Winnie:

Little Mandarin Winnie.jpg

Winnie is a lover and practitioner of not only aerial yoga but aerial silks, aerial hoop and pole dancing. A mind-body practice has always been her passion and her own yoga practice is the source of her health, energy and inspiration.

What started out as a way to workout, soon became a way of life. Coming from an architectural background, for years her life had been a juggle of deadlines until she discovered yoga in 2012. Since then, she has found herself faithfully on her mat every day - re-establishing alignment between mind and body, experiencing the growing joy in her heart, and a joy independent of the external. With nothing but blind faith, she left for Thailand in the summer of 2013 to study yoga, which turned out to be a month filled with powerful trust and love with beautiful people. Through her training, she realised that this is the path that she wants to lead and has since embarked on the journey of sharing the bounty and blessings of yoga.

Winnie loves to see each practice as a little dance manoeuvre composed of mindfulness, breath, movement and freedom. Fluidity comes with the balance between strength and flexibility. She believes that yoga mirrors our lives and the real practice takes place beyond the mat.

Cultivating Balance: An Introduction to Yin Yang Yoga

YINYANGYOGA-display.jpg

Interested in starting your yoga journey? Or have a tendency to only focus on either strong classes or Yin classes? Yin Yang yoga is perfect for you! Come cultivate balance in a 2-hr introductory Yin Yang yoga class co-led by Sharon Yu and Mie Takamatsu at Little Mandarin Yoga in the CBD in partnership with Nimble Activewear.

Yin Yoga places emphasis on stillness and stability whilst Yang Yoga emphasises movement and mobility. Both yin and yang energies co-exist in our body and are constantly flowing relative to one another in balance. However, sometimes our energies become imbalanced due to too much of one type of energy. Many of us lead very yang heavy lifestyles, as we live in a modern and fast-paced world with deadlines and daily stresses. No matter which side you naturally lean more towards, we are always striving to find balance in our mind, body and spirit. Come experience an integrative yoga practice and experience the best of both worlds in Yin Yang yoga, as created by Paul & Suzee Grilley, Sarah Powers, and taught by Jo Phee!

In this special extended class:

  • Introduction to Taoist theory about Yin and Yang;
  • Qi (energy) cultivation and warm up;

  • Experience a set sequence of “yang” flows as created by Yin Yoga founders Paul and Suzee Grilley, which is inspired by Yoga, Qigong and Dance movements in order to mobilise “qi” (energy) in our body;

  • Learn about functional yoga and skeletal variations to adapt the practice to you;

  • Melt and bliss out with yin yoga; and

  • End the class with Yoga Nidra (a guided meditation).

Yin Yang yoga will challenge your body and mind in two different ways and you will leave the class feeling energised, yet with a sense of peace and lightness. This special class is suitable for both beginner and advanced yogis alike. Mats and props are provided.

Each participant will receive a 20% discount card to shop in-store at Nimble Activewear and one lucky winner will walk out not only with a sense of balance but also free signature neoprene tote bag to inspire you to continue your newfound movement practice!

Investment: $28 (Free Entry for Little Mandarin Debit & Annual Members, reserve a spot at the desk)

About Your Teachers:

Both Sharon Yu and Mie Takamatsu completed their Yin Yoga training with Jo Phee, who is a long-time student and senior assistant to the founders of Yin Yoga, Paul and Suzee Grilley, and Sarah Powers. After completing their training with Jo Phee, they both found that it left a profound impact on their personal view and approach towards their practice and teachings. They are excited to share their learnings and passions for a balanced practice with everyone.

  • Drill utilising body strength and targeting areas of tightness in the body;
  • Practise acro-yoga flying techniques incorporating the above; and
  • Learn basic Thai massage techniques where you will give and receive the benefits of Thai massage in a supine (lying down) position.
